Research Report “Managing Water Losses in Urban Water Systems: An International Perspective”
Water loss in the municipal water supply network is a perennial challenge that has been plaguing many cities around the world. The authors of this Research Report state that evidence collected from a number of case study cities has demonstrated that an effective implementation of a judicious mix of policies and technologies could enable cities to tackle and control this seemingly intractable conundrum. This Research Report contains six case study analyses that focus on the question of how, and to what extent, the problem of water loss has been managed and resolved in the selected cities. Co-authored by Dr. Frederick Lee, Executive Director of the HKU Water Center, and Professor Kaimin Shih of the Department of Civil Engineering in HKU’s Faculty of Engineering, the Report offers an international perspective on how cities have tackled the problem of water losses, summing up some key lessons for our professional community’s consideration.
